BioGinevra Babini’s work challenges mundane situations through the use of playful imagery, vibrant colors and pattern, and humor. Often using language and common everyday objects as inspiration, her work highlights relatable situations with a twist. Babini was born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the heart of Amish country. However, having a heavy Italian influence at home, a unique view on life was cultivated through this juxtaposition. This can specifically be seen in her work where she challenges what many consider US social norms vs. what was portrayed as norms in her hometown and home-life. Consumerism, color, and social class are common themes she entertains in her art, resulting in vivid imagery and concepts.
BFA Graduate of Alfred University, Babini currently resides in Washington, DC and can be found painting or up-cycling thrifted jackets in her spare time. |
